Where climate intelligence
meets capital conviction
The new blueprint for climate impact
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our generation.
- Accelerating and increasingly visible climate events are causing immediate, quantifiable damage to high-capex infrastructure, ecosystem services and human life.
- As an example, the atmosphere's moisture-holding capacity rises by roughly 7% for every 1°C of warming, which means heavier extreme rainfall, higher dew points and rising wet-bulb temperatures. This presents a real economic challenge impacting design assumptions set for a different climate, labour productivity and asset integrity.
- Individual risks are identifiable and manageable. Compounding, interconnected risk is the greater threat and opportunity that requires an enterprise response.
- Insurance underwriters and lenders are pricing physical and transition climate vulnerabilities directly into capital allocation decisions. This is affecting the availability and cost of capital, and driving premiums, deductibles and coverage terms.
- Market capability will only sharpen. Public datasets already allow capital providers to compare vulnerabilities, exposures and performance across companies independently.
- In the absence of a global carbon price, markets are already pricing climate risk. The opportunity is to own your exposure and your resilience pathway. Otherwise the market will define both for you.
- Mandatory disclosure aligned to IFRS S2 is arriving across major markets, requiring boards to disclose the financial effects of climate-related risks and opportunities.
- Covered entities must move beyond narrative to quantified enterprise, operational and financial impact.
- Do not mistake this for a sustainability reporting exercise. The intent of IFRS S2 is to embed climate into core risk, financial and strategic decision-making. Treating it as a disclosure task understates both the effort required and the strategic opportunity at stake.
